Two full-time detectives now conduct investigations for the major crimes we have occurring in our county: a narcotics detective assigned to the Columbia Enforcement Narcotics team; and, a general law detective for follow-up investigations and all major crimes.
The Columbia Enforcement Narcotics Team (CENT) detective focuses investigative efforts on those who bring controlled substances into our community, targeting the vulnerable members of our society, especially our children. Major narcotics traffickers are the targets for the team. The team works in concert with other narcotics teams and our deputies to identify and interdict illicit drug pushers in our community.
A second detective position was created to deal with the huge backlog of criminal cases developed by our uniformed patrol deputies that could not be investigated thoroughly, due to the incessant stream of 9-1-1 calls to which they have been responding. This detective position focuses on child abuse investigations (referrals for which come in to the sheriff's office on a daily basis), and other major crime follow-up investigations.
The Sheriff's Office has established a tip line for citizens to refer information for criminal investigation. The number is: (503) 366-4698. This line is also used for citizens to relay information regarding their cases for the sheriff's office to perform follow up investigations as time permits on less emergent cases.
