Rules For All Jail Visitors

Unless expressly provided otherwise or an exception is authorized, all visitors are subject to the following:

 A. Visitors must conduct themselves in an orderly manner at all time. Visitors who appear to be under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance will not be allowed to visit.

 B. Visitors creating a disturbance, using obscene language or gestures , refusing to follow jail rules or otherwise whose presence is adverse to the safety, security, order, treatment, discipline or any other interest of the jail will be required to leave.

 C. Visitors must be properly attired at all times. No short shorts, low-cut blouses, mini-skirts, transparent or sheer clothing will be allowed. All visitors must wear shirts or blouses with sleeves. Tank tops and muscle shirts will not be allowed. Footwear is mandatory at all time.

 D. Minors shall not be left unattended at any time or in any location in the facility. Parents or guardians must properly supervise minors and are responsible for their behavior.

E. Attempts to smuggle or assist in smuggling drugs, weapons or other contraband, or assisting, conspiring or otherwise participating in an escape or attempted escape, may, in addition to revocation of visiting privileges result in criminal prosecution.

 F. Personal property will not be allowed in the visiting area. Visitors are required to store all carried items including coats, jackets, hats, handbags, briefcases, personal items, cigarettes, food and beverages in their vehicles or in the lockers provided in the lobby. Limited items necessary for infants may be permitted and are subject to search. Head coverings that are not to be removed as bona fide religious tenant are permitted. The jail chaplain shall be consulted if questions arise. Head coverings must not interfere with identification of the visitor.

 G. All visitors are encouraged to arrive at the Sheriff’s Office 10 to 15 minutes, but not less than 5 minutes prior to the time of their scheduled visit to sign in and prepare for their visit. Late arrivals and those not prepared to enter the visiting area when directed by the lobby staff will not be allowed to visit.

H. All visitors are subject to search, however, Visitors may not be required to submit to a search as a condition of visiting unless jail staff has an individualized and reasonable suspicion to believe that the visitor is concealing contraband or evidence of other intended violation of jail rules (No person will be searched without consent, other than in the course of an arrest. Refusal to consent to such a search will result in the denial or termination of the visit in question).

I. Visitors found in violation of these rules may receive a warning, have their visit terminated, visiting privileges suspended, or revoked and potentially may be subject to criminal prosecution.

a. Any visitor that has been denied the opportunity to visit, or who has his or her visitor status suspended or revoked may appeal that decision to the Shift Supervisor and/or Jail Commander in writing within 72 hours after the denial. The decision of the Shift Supervisor or Jail Commander is final

b. Visitation status will not be terminated, suspended or revoked based on gender, race, color, national origin, religion, creed, sexual orientation or other protected status of the visitor.
